In addition to the services and structured programs, the Senior Center also serves as central meeting place-a true community center where some seniors wait for the doors to open in the morning so that they can relax, catch up with their friends and neighbors, play pool or dominoes, and drink coffee.
Others come to the Senior Center to purchase MUNI passess, pay their PG&E bill, and/or receive help paying their bills. The Center is the place for memorial services for community members, birthday parties, and community organizing.
There is a core group of 50 who come to Center each day, others come weekly for specific activities, and events.
There are also the dedicated domino players and pool players who attend the center religiously.
The Center retains the values of a community village that elders from historical Southern Black communities have brought to the Bayview, creating their own small town with people who have known each other for decades.
